No Pay: Producer

Producer sought by new theatre company to take a play to the Edinburgh Festival 2009. The play has already been produced at the 24:7 Theatre Festival 2008 in Manchester, where it received great critical acclaim. We have a very strong production in place which we now want to put forward to leading Edinburgh Fringe venues. We are looking for a fund-raising producer who is able to lead the pitching process, raise the money necessary to take the production to the festival, and spearhead a marketing campaign. This position is unpaid but is a great opportunity to gain experience in producing an Edinburgh show while working on a production with a solid track record and in which many of the production elements (set, sound, design, cast and director, poster and flyer design, press releases, photos, DVD and reviews of production) are already in place.

Our production of POTTED PIRATES will be touring the UK and further afield from January to August 2009 and we are looking for an experienced Company Stage Manager.

The show plays small and middle scale venues and tours in an LWB Transit, 2 on stage; 3 on the road.

The tour is likely to include an international leg in April and May.

The successful candidate will need to be able to relight and operate the show, as well as sharing van driving, and all the usual CSM responsibilities.

As the tour is not continuous, the engagement will be based on a daily fee (to be agreed), switching to a weekly fee for the month of August when the show will play at the Edinburgh fringe. At this stage there are certainly 50 days of work in January - July (except March), and it is likely that this will grow to between 70 and 90 days as the tour continues to add dates.

I am seeking the help of a Costume Student or recent graduate to assist with the one week of prep and possible one to two first weeks of the run of the pantomime 'Jack and the Beanstalk'.

You will be working with the costume supervisor who is an experienced costume designer in the film industry - a good contact to make.

In the week before the show opens, you will be helping to fit and alter costumes, source a few items and just help with the organisation and set up of things. Your help may be required for the first couple of shows and then fitting the rest of the changing cast during the first week or two of the run.

The start date is Sunday the 23rd of November, the production opens Saturday the 29th. As the role is unpaid, I am more than happy to work around the part-time work commitments of any involved, but can only consider people from within the relative local area (near Maidstone, Kent) as only these travel expenses are covered.

I am looking forward to hearing from enthusiastic people with a genuine love of costume work, an interest in making new contacts and putting their best into what they do. The prep work might be hard, but it will also be fun.

No Pay: Fundraiser

We are looking for a Fundraiser to join the team for our forthcoming production of The Dice House by Paul Lucas, directed by Stephen Glover at the Hen and Chickens Theatre, 13th-31st January 2009. This will be the play's first professional revival since its West End run in 2004.

The Dice House, a gloriously witty, subversive comic play, was inspired by cult novel, 'The Dice Man' by Luke Rheinhart, which described one man's journey of self enlightenment by following the will of the dice to determine all his choices in life.
The play unfolds in a commune run by maverick psychiatrist, Dr Ratner, where patients are encouraged to surrender all their decisions to the roll of the dice, whatever the consequences! Into this environment is hurled naive young Matthew - sent to the Dice House against his will and soon to realise that his innocence is not the only thing he could lose...What follows is a twisted tale of blackmail, dismemberment and genital shaving, climaxing in a dramatic battle that pits chance against rationality!

Silver Thread Productions is a company dedicated to producing contemporary writing on the London fringe, seeking out deserving revivals of plays written in the last 20 years.

Applicants would need to be available for evening production meetings and preferably be able to attend a couple of rehearsals between December 15th-23rd.

The position is unpaid but will provide valuable experience of working with a dynamic and friendly team of experienced theatre professionals to promote a fantastic play. The role will involve working closely with the director, producers and designer.

Further details on the production can be found at www.silver-thread.co.uk

No Pay: Directors

Youth Action Theatre (YAT) is looking for new directors for our 2009/2010 programme to work with us on a voluntary basis.

YAT is a voluntary organisation that provides an opportunity for any young person, aged between 16 and 25, to acquire or enhance their acting and theatrical skills by participation in drama workshops and on-stage performances. Whilst the work is thoroughly enjoyed, a strict disciplined approach is maintained and dedication required ensuring the maximum possible professionalism and the highest standards in the final production. We put on 2-4 productions a year and our main performance venue is the Hampton Hill Playhouse, Middlesex.

Our rehearsal period is usually 8-12 weeks for a main house performance but may be less for a studio performance. Rehearsals are held on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7.30pm - 10.00pm.

YAT was started in 1970 in response to a need for free activities for young people. As such YAT has always maintained an open door policy, any young person that wants to get involved, can.

Whilst we do not hold formal auditions for members to join YAT, we do hold auditions for each production on the basis that we will always try to include everyone who auditions, in each production and so plays selected must be versatile enough to accommodate this. Group numbers can be anywhere between 10-20 people.

For further information on YAT including previous productions we have staged please visit www.yat.org.uk

YAT is currently run by a Committee of past YAT members and supporters. The Committee will support you with your production, however if you have your own contacts for backstage and crew please let us know.

We are welcoming directors of all ages to come and work with us. All we ask is that you bring with you the commitment and enthusiasm needed to take up this brilliant opportunity. Unfortunately we cannot pay directors for their time but this is an ideal opportunity for anyone wishing to gain experience in Directing theatrical productions to really get involved.

If you think you would like to work with this unique and talented group the please visit our website and enter your details on the Contact Us page, selecting New Directors Application as the topic. Expressions of interest should be received by November 30th 2008 for consideration for the 2009 programme.

No Pay: Theatre Director

We are a new theatre company interested in bringing new life to classic works of theatre. The company is trying to bring regional theatre back into its own field, with a diverse selection of well-known plays, refreshing tired old traditions - whilst guaranteeing an entertaining night out for everyone. The company is proud to have the opportunity to contribute to East Anglia's rich and flourishing base for arts and culture.

The company began in October 2006, and is a partnership between Ross McGregor, Artistic Director, and Melisa Ramadan, Production Coordinator. In the past year, we have produced six touring shows, including Alan Ayckbourn's Norman Conquests Trilogy, his more recent dark comedy Wildest Dreams, Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution, and a Noel Coward double bill of Private Lives and Blithe Spirit.

They specialise in British post-war theatre, taking famed works and revitalising them for the modern audience, whilst staying true to the playwright's original intentions. They tour around the local East Anglian area, bringing big shows and famous work to places that might not normally get to experience it. They care greatly for regional theatre, and are working to bring it back into the mainstream, so that in the future it may equal London's choking hold on the art form. With about 20 actors, directors, writers and stage crew, all passionate about making quality entertainment and drama for the local community.

We are looking for a director who would be willing to put on productions. They would have casting freedom, access to all our resources, personnel and budget, have freedom of choice in terms of play selection, and get their production toured around the east Anglian area. They would be in charge of running the entire rehearsal process, in conjunction with the Production Manager, and work as the creative head of the play's production team. They would be handling all artistic decisions concerning the show, and may even run the show during performance, working with the Stage Manager and the venue staff to co-ordinate the production. We need a dedicated applicant, focused and enthusiastic, who wants to work as part of close-knit team, who is not afraid of tackling a production themselves. A leader, interested in working within the remit of regional theatre as an important member of a young and up-and-coming professional company.

Some things I need to make you aware of about the company before you make your decision about applying.

We are based in Norwich, Norfolk, and this is where the rehearsals will take place.

You will need somewhere to stay locally during the rehearsals, and due to financial constraints, we cannot aid you to cover the costs. We may be able to find it on your behalf, but this is the extent of our support concerning that.

We do not cover travel expenses to Norwich, for rehearsals OR interviews. On performance days we cover the cost of transport FROM Norwich to the venues and BACK.

The company is run on a system of profit share, and whilst all eight of our previous productions have made a profit for everyone involved, the amount of money in question is not large. This casting post was included in the non-pay section of the website and should be viewed as such. Any money that comes of the show is an added bonus. Once the show expenses are paid for, the profit will be split between the director, cast and crew, around 10-11 people. I am confident in the selling power of both the company and the show for this tour, but thought it best to be clear about the payment aspect. Basically, you will get something, but please don't expect it to solve your mortgage for you.

Although living locally is vital for rehearsals, if you are required, once the show is up and running you would only be needed on show days. We have made bookings with the Fisher Theatre in Bungay, the Granary Theatre in Wells-Next-The-Sea, St. Edmund's Hall in Southwold, the Quay Theatre in Sudbury, Auden Theatre in Holt, the Cut Theatre in Halesworth, Wymondham High School, Downham Market Town Hall, St. Gregory's Arts Centre in Norwich and the Norwich Puppet Theatre. We can give you the confirmed dates subsequently.

If you are interested in a position, then please send your CV, and we will arrange an interview with you.
